“I like my pop music a little bit weird,” says FEMME. “I like it to challenge, to push the envelope a little bit — not just repeat what’s gone before.” She’s not fond of repeating herself either.
While FEMME still writes, produces and performs all her music, the new material marks a departure from last year’s Dubutante album, featuring snappier beats and tighter, more incisive arrangements.
“My production is so intertwined with my writing process, I wouldn’t be able to do it not in that driver’s seat”, she explains. “This is just me flexing my muscles in a different direction.”
Actress Samantha Barks was worlds away from her nineteenth-century character on Tuesday, as she made a very glamorous appearance at the launch of The Perception at the W London.

FEMME first found acclaim as the frontwoman of Ultraísta, the electronic supergroup featuring Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich and Beck drummer Joey Waronker.
Her first single as FEMME was playlisted on BBC 6 Music and caught the ears of Charli XCX, who offered Bettinson a support slot on her breakthrough North American tour.
Eschewing major label overtures to maintain her freedom as an artist, FEMME then turned director, choreographer and even roadie for a series of singles, videos and tours, culminating in the 2016 release of her Debutante album.
